Our good bicycling friend, Jim Bean procured Laurie and I pit passes and a parking pass tickets for the NHRA Fall Nationals races in Ennis,TX the weekend of Sept. 20, 2013.

We had been to drag races about 30 some years ago north of Denver, CO  at Bandimere Speedway and they were fun, but at Dallas we got to go into the pits to see all the behind the scene happenings of hearing the cars running as they were working on the motors.

It started raining on us Thursday night and rained all night and into Friday all day. We decided to go to the track for our tickets and parking pass from the Pro Tire / Mickey Thompson dealer.  I am so glad we did, as there was almost no one there, so it was easy to get around. We left for the motel to freshen up for dinner, and dancing at Billy Bob’s.

We arrived at the Ennis track on Saturday morning.  The sun was out and it was going to be a sunny day with highs in the 80’s.  There was a line of about 3 miles long to get into the gates.  With our Gold pass, we got a good place to park.  We found the Pro Tire trailer and Wayne, so we knew where we were and then we walked to the race track.  People were everywhere; lot’s of people with big trucks and trailers.

You could hear the Top Fuel Dragsters running by the noise.  We stood at the finish line for a while taking pictures.  At this point we had to look quick, as the cars are going by at 300 mph.  After a while we walked down to the start line for a slower view.   The smell of nitromethane was in the air.

We saw Top fuel cars, Funny cars, Pro Stock cars and motorcycles.  We stayed until mid afternoon and then went back to Ft. Worth.  We found the winery in Grapevine we were at a year ago and bought some wine, then went to dinner at a new place in downtown Grapevine.  The next morning there was no clouds for the drive home.  It was a very interesting and fun weekend.
